Life as a Delaware Animal & Wildlife Trapping: Why 24/7 Availability Matters

Why 24/7 Availability Matters

For over three decades, I've been proudly serving the state of Delaware as a licensed wildlife control professional. Many of you might wonder about the intricacies of this job and why someone would choose to make it a lifelong career. The truth is, it's been an adventurous journey, one filled with surprises, challenges, and moments of awe-inspiring beauty.

The thing about wildlife is that it doesn

t operate on a 9-to-5 schedule. Animals don't care about weekends, holidays, or what hour of the night it is. Over the years, I've received calls at all hours

from midnight raccoon disturbances to early morning bird intrusions. That's why, in this profession, 24/7 availability isn't just a luxury

it's an absolute necessity.

When Nature Calls... Literally

I vividly recall an incident several years ago, in the wee hours of a cold winter night, when a distressed homeowner called. An opossum had found its way into their living room, presumably seeking warmth. The family, understandably panicked, needed immediate assistance. These are the moments when I'm reminded of the significant role I play in the community. Within an hour, the opossum was safely and humanely removed, and peace was restored.

Such emergencies are more common than you might think. Whether it's a squirrel making a home in an attic or a skunk taking refuge under a porch, wildlife has a knack for finding its way into places it doesn't belong, often at the most inconvenient times.

The Importance of Prompt Response

Immediate availability is crucial for several reasons:

  • Safety First:

Many wild animals can become aggressive when cornered or threatened, posing a risk to homeowners and their pets.

  • Prevent Damage:

The longer an animal remains in an unsuitable environment, the more damage they can cause. This can range from gnawed wires and structural damage to the spread of diseases or parasites.

  • Animal Welfare:

It's not just about the humans involved. These animals, often lost or looking for shelter, can become stressed or injured in unfamiliar surroundings. A prompt response ensures their swift and humane relocation.

Beyond the Call of Duty

One might wonder why I've dedicated over 30 years of my life to this line of work. The answer is simple: passion. There's a profound satisfaction in knowing that I'm bridging the delicate balance between human society and nature. By being available around the clock, I'm not just offering a service; I'm providing peace of mind to the community and ensuring the well-being of our state's wonderful wildlife.

So, if you ever find yourself in a wildlife pickle, no matter the hour, remember there's always help available.
